Summit Eyecare has five full-time Kamloops eye doctors on staff, including some who have practiced for decades and a recent graduate trained in the latest techniques. Please take a minute to learn more about our optometrists, and give us a call to come in and meet them.
Always ready to greet you with a smile, our front desk staff can help you book appointments, order contacts and make sure that your Summit Eyecare experience is a positive one. They also run all of the pre-testing equipment that puts together a patient’s baseline information before seeing one of our optometrists.
Dr. Demarchi was born and raised in Kamloops, and graduated from the optometry program at the University of Waterloo in 1969. He then opened his first clinic with Dr. Takahashi, and after 19 years of working together, he started his own practice in 1988. A year later, in 1989, Dr. Giovanni Cinel joined him in practice, and in 1998 they moved to their current location and changed the name to Summit Eyecare Centre.
Optometry has always been a passion for Dr. Demarchi and he finds the latest developments in technology to be very stimulating, especially as they have improved the sight of people who formerly had to live with deteriorating vision.
He loves the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, as well as spending time with his wife, Terry, their two children and four grandchildren.
Dr. Cinel was also born and raised in Kamloops, graduating from Norkam Secondary. He then attended the University of Waterloo, receiving both his Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Optometry degrees before returning home to begin practice in 1989.
A member of the Third World Eyecare Society, Dr. Cinel has participated in five eye-care missions to Grenada, Guatemala, and the Philippines. He is regularly asked to lecture at optometry conferences in British Columbia and Alberta.
Giovanni enjoys singing and has performed with the TRU Chorus and the Kamloops Symphony Chorus. He and his wife, Cynthia, love to travel.
Dr. Noble was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, the oldest of four siblings. He attended the University of Western Ontario in London before studying optometry at the University of Waterloo. He graduated with honours in 1998 and began practicing optometry that same year.
He met his wife, Julie, shortly thereafter, and they are enjoying raising two active young children, Carter and Sadie. Dr. Noble enjoys all aspects of optometric practice and is happy to assist patients with complete eye examinations, contact lenses, laser or cataract co-management and ocular emergencies.
When not in the office, Dr. Noble enjoys staying fit with hockey, softball, going to the gym, and performs admirably in his second career as his children’s chauffeur!
Dr. Weston grew up in London, Ontario. His parents, a physician and a nurse, had five children, Josh being the fourth.
Dr. Weston studied at the University Of Waterloo, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctorate of Optometry degree. During that time, he had the privilege of having internships in London, Ontario at the Ivey Eye Clinic, the private ophthalmology practice of Dr. Colin Mailer, as well as a private optometry practice in Christchurch, New Zealand. In New Zealand, he gained valuable clinical experience
with binocular vision anomalies and vision therapy, dealing mostly with the pediatric population. While in London, he was involved with cases of glaucoma, retinal disease, strabismus, lid anomalies, cataract, refractive and corneal surgeries.
Dr. Weston and his wife made the move to Kamloops in 2004 and both have lived and worked in the community since that time. They have two young children that light up their lives, as well. Dr. Weston also enjoys downhill skiing, mountain biking and playing soccer in his free time.
Dr. Sitler grew up in Kitchener, Ontario and is excited to make Kamloops her new home with her husband, Tyler. Graduating in 2011, she received both her Bachelor of Science and her Optometry degrees from the University of Waterloo. During her studies, she was an intern at Summit Eyecare Centre, as well as a clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah, which specializes in glaucoma and dry-eye care.
When she’s not practicing optometry, you can usually find her sipping a coffee and reading a good book, but now that she’s in BC, she just may give skiing a try!
Dr. Dan Derksen was born and raised in the St. Catharines area of Ontario and completed his optometric training at the University of Waterloo, graduating in 1991. After graduation he began practicing optometry in Kelowna, BC. He then moved to Williams Lake in 1996 to take over a single doctor practice. During the years in Williams Lake, the practice grew into a large 5 doctor practice and in 2014 Dr. Derksen sold the practice. Shortly after, he moved to Sun Peaks to enjoy the beauty and outdoor fun it has to offer. He enjoys skiing, biking, golfing, and paddle boarding.
Dr. Derksen enjoys spending time with his 3 grown children and one grandchild. He is an associate optometrist at Summit Eyecare Centre and gets great satisfaction from seeing patients in Kamloops and working with the fantastic and professional team at the clinic.
